Ping Pong Vader (t-shirt design)

Above: This is a design created for Oddica.com, the
best t-shirt company on the web.
The first panel is on the front of the shirt and the
second is located on the lower back of the shirt.

Below: This is one of the early sketches for the design.
The pile of ashes was changed to the
severed arm seen in the final art above.
Oddica.com is terrific source of some of the most unique
and interesting t-shirts available. They have dozens of
original designs and their clothing is high quality and
very affordable. Click any of the Oddica links and check
it out for yourself. You'll be glad you did.

Bathtub

Aaah, there's nothing like a relaxing bubble-bath to help
a cute, betentacled lass forget all about the troubles of the day.

Movie Break: "Tears of the Black Tiger"

I want to take a break from the art for a moment to mention an amazing movie I just saw: "Tears of the Black Tiger".

It's a movie from Thailand that combines a melodramatic tale of lost love with a satire of/homage to American and Italian Westerns.

The plot involves an outlaw called The Black Tiger, who,
as a boy, falls in love with a young girl from a wealthy family.
Due to their difference in status, the two are unable to be together. Once grown, the girl is set up by her father to marry a captain of the police force. The boy has gained a proficiency with a six-gun and has joined an outlaw gang who's members dress and act like characters from old westerns (but also use machine guns and hand grenades!). Things come to a head in a delirious blend of drama, action and absurdity.

The film brings together a saturated, candy color scheme, occasional painted backdrops, beautifully edited action sequences, bloody violence, opposing genres and eye-catching compositions and combines them into a cohesive, yet dreamlike, whole.

It's a true visual treat as well as a strangely moving story.

This is a movie for people who REALLY love movies.

Gleeble

If you look to the
night sky, you may
see Gleeble heading
who knows where.

He has his own
agenda which he
will not share.

Fare well on your
journey, friend
Gleeble. Our good
wishes travel
with you.

Oh, and please send a postcard when you get
wherever you're going. You forgot the last time.

Coffee House Sketches

Here are some sketches I did today at a local coffee house.

I added the fancy design behind this fellow. This was a chair from the shop. It seemed like
the perfect fit for this undersea moment.
This guy was a real character. He kept one glove on
the whole time. I assume it was because his coffee was hot, but
I'd like to think that he was actually an old retired henchman
and the glove was hiding a powerful metal hand.
"Time was I coulda kilt alla yoose guys wit one blow!"

More Shopping Girls

Here are two more retro shopping gals from the ol' sketchbook.Speaking of shoppers, I am currently reading the novel
"Shopaholic & Sister", the third sequel to "Confessions of a Shopaholic"
by Sophie Kinsella. The other books in the series are:
"Shopaholic Takes Manhattan", "Shopaholic Ties the Knot" and the
recently released "Shopaholic & Baby".

I can't recommend these enough. If you enjoy a good romantic
comedy filled with British humor and charm, the adventures of the
irrepressible Becky Bloomwood and her financial fiascoes will
make for the perfect reading experience.

Shhhh!

You must be very quiet

while the octopoid is
being served.

One sound and you will
rouse it back to life.

Once revived, it will
launch into a never-ending
medley of tunes by former
media darling, Pia Zadora.

So, please, be as quiet as a little
church mouse so we can all
enjoy the meal.

Undersea Kingdom

I love old movie serials and one of my
favorites is "Undersea Kingdom" starring
Ray "Crash" Corrigan and Lon Chaney Jr.
It inspired me to do this sketch of Crash duking
it out with one of the clunky robot guards that
work for the villain.

Jenny

Last year I sketched a series of images of women against
patterned backgrounds with the intention of eventually
turning them into finished pieces. This is my first
attempt at making that happen.

Drawn with a Micron pen and colored in Photoshop.
